Bobby Goldsboro – California Wine w/ LYRICS

California Wine – Year Song Released 1972 A cold December day. I saw her on the highway I said I’m headed west. She said your going my way. Then she got in with me. Somewhere in Tennesee. She snuggled up close to me. She kissed me and then she said. I want you to take me to my California Wine. She said I got to get back where the bright sunshine. And then she turned my head around like California wine. And then she smiled at me and put her hand in mine. And poured me a cup of wine, sweet California wine. She said she thumbed all day. Been in West Virginia. She said I’ll make a trade. For all the love thats in ya. I can sit and talk to you. Share a cup of wine or two. And I could be good to you. She kissed me and then she said I want you to take me to my California Wine. She said I got to get back where the bright sunshine. And then she turned my head around like California wine. Then she smiled at me and put her hand in mine. And poured another cup of wine, sweet California wine. We chased a fading sun. And watched the shadows falling. And as we sipped the wine. I heard California calling. And she was good my dear. And it became very clear. I shifted into second gear. I kissed her and then I said I’m gonna take you to the California wine I said we got to get back where the bright sunshine. And then she turned my head around like California wine. And then she smiled at me and put her hand in mine. And poured another cup of wine, sweet California wine.

Agreed, he had many little known hits. He was a much better singer than he was ever known. Sad thing how some great singers can get little exposure, and some pittiful singers can become super-stars…

One of my favorite BG songs! I never get tired listening to this song…I wish somebody would post Bobby’s jingle to Wylers lemonade, that was a very catchy tune in the 70′s

  10. giffeym says:

Loved this song the first time I heard it on his 10th Anniversay Greatest Hits 8 track (Yes, I am that old). Thank you so much for posting it!

Fabulous. One of the most under appreciated songs of all time. Beautiful music, great lyrics. Goldsboro himself is very underrated as well.

My radio show emanates from PA. It is a country formatted FM station but allows a six hour Saturday night window for older stuff. I’m quite proud of the show as it gives listeners in our part of the Commonwealth, Delaware and Maryland…and anyone who picks it up streaming on the worldwide web, the opportunity to hear the music others have forgotten…much of it is the ‘roots’ of country. The 50′s, 60′s up through the 80s. A good mix if I must say so myself. Thanks for asking!

  16. bgfanWithPenInHand says:

certainly one of the better songwriters of our time. his words always painted a vivid picture for me. this song is a favorite of mine and of listeners to my radio show. it was never a big hit, but should have been.
thank you for thinking about it and including it here.

  19. whippedcreamshampoo says:

And he has a real MySpace page! Surely he’ll get onto YouTube sooner or later.

  20. whippedcreamshampoo says:

He has many great, little-known songs, most of which he wrote. He didn’t write Honey, but I think it’s a good song too. Just too bad, as you say, that’s about all most people get to know of him.

  21. Brent441 says:

NOTE; Click on (more info) to see the LYRICS to this great song…Please let me know of any omissions or errors…Thank You…

  22. peeterpoon says:

Bobby Goldsboro is sadly remembered for dreck such as “Honey” instead of great stuff such as “Brand New Kind Of Love,” “Summer the First Time” and of course, “California Wine.”

  23. bgfanWithPenInHand says:

What a great story-song, one of my favorites !! In my world, Bobby Goldsboro is a singer-songwriter beyond compare. FYI – He has an Official Website with a gallery of his paintings. He also has a concert coming up.
