Chicago Really Short Film Fest Announces 2005 Event Date, April 1 Deadline for Submission

Chicago, IL (PRWEB) March 9, 2005 -

Maia Entertainent today announced the details of its second annual Chicago Really Short Film Fest, to take place on May 7, 2005 at the Abbey Pub (3420 W. Grace Chicago, Il 60618). Festival organizers also announced a call for filmmakers to submit their short pieces, emphasizing an April 1st deadline for consideration.

Presented by Maia Entertainent, ChicagoFilm.com, Image Union and eFilmCriticÂ’s Erik Childress, the Chicago Really Short Film Fest is unique in both its format and submission requirements. Submissions for the fest must be under 15 minutes and may include short films, animations, documentaries and music videos.

The one-night only film festival is interspersed with two bands (TRS-80, Project .44) and sketch comedy (The Patel Leads) and the majority of the films submitted for the event consist of low-budget, independent and underground films from both local and national talent.

“We started this festival as a way to screen some of our favorite local filmmakers and to throw a really good party at a great venue. We were amazed at the high quality of submissions we got last year from all over the country and the support we got from both the independent filmmaking community and a really responsive audience. We had a packed house last year and a solid lineup of films and our goal is to go even further than that this year,” said festival founder Rick Ramirez.

Submitting filmmakers are eligible for consideration for several awards and prizes: The Audience Choice Award, the ChicagoFilm Go Shorty Awards, the eFilmCritic Award, and all event participants are in consideration for a paid screening on WTTW Channel 11Â’s award-winning film show Image Union.

“We really go all out to make sure that all our accepted filmmakers receive a larger audience and more exposure than they might be able to get anywhere else,” said Ramirez.

“Last year three of the films from the festival ended up being screened on Image Union, where not only were the filmmakers compensated for their films, but they were able to expose their work to a large, appreciative new audience of Chicagoland film fans. Our goal with this festival is definitely to put on a great show, but also to discover and expose the work of talented short filmmakers.”

The 2005 Chicago Really Short Film Fest Submission date is rapidly approaching. The regular submission deadline is April 1st. The submission fee is $ 15 and $ 5 off per additional film, with discounts available for student filmmakers. Late registration goes until April 7th, with a $ 50 fee for late submission.
