In 1968 Nick began his career in commercial insurance after working in the trucking industry and farming. He started as a payroll auditor in Redding for workers compensation insurance, and worked his way up to sales and sales management. He then went on to two other insurance companies where he furthered his career in key management positions.

Nick is a native Californian born in Martinez and educated in Concord where he graduated from Mt. Diablo High School. In addition to completing a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Marketing at Chico State, Nick also achieved the professional designation of Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter and is a lifetime member of the Society of CPCU.

Nick met and married his wife Cathy while still in college. This year they will be celebrating 41 years of marriage. They have three daughters and four grandchildren.  Cathy enjoys spending much of her time as a volunteer for the American Cancer Society and Nick enjoys golf in his free time.  Getting away to the mountains is something they both look forward to.

America

"To the immediate left of the entrance rests not a continent, but instead the representation of the Western Hemisphere—both North and South America. The seated, alert young woman holds the torch of Liberty, while stalks of corn lie in her lap. The figure of Labor crouches at her side, setting in motion a winged wheel of Fortune. In his other hand, Labor holds mechanical tools of knowledge: a magnet and a prism. Although intended to represent the whole hemisphere, the sculpture does not reference other nations and cultures in a positive manner, and mainly portrays the prosperity of the United States."

In 1986, soon after moving to Modesto for a career opportunity, Nick was invited to join Modesto Sunrise Rotary.  He saw this as a way of getting involved in the community and meeting other business people.   After serving on various club committees, Nick became club president for the 1993 -1994 year.  He then went on to become involved in District 5220 operations as well.  Today after stints in 1998-1999 as Assistant District Governor and in 2001 as Club Service Team Captain, he serves as 2003-2004 District Governor.

Over the years Nick has also devoted time to Rotary as District Insurance Chairman, Area representative for Area 6, Chairman of the 1997 and 1998 District Assemblies, Chairman of the District Disaster Relief Committee, Chairman of the Foundation Alumni Committee, and Chairman of the International Friendship Exchange Committee. Nick has volunteered in his community and in World Community Service eye clinics and projects in Mexico and Honduras. Now in 2003/2004, Nick will follow PDG Leonard Bartlett 1980/1981 as the second District Governor from Capax/Giddings, Corby, Hynes, the Modesto insurance brokerage firm where Nick is a commercial insurance broker and partner serving as senior vice president and director.
