Rochester Poets was founded in 1922 as the Rochester chapter of the Poetry Society of America. It is the oldest ongoing poetry and literary organization in the upstate New York region.

He and Helaine have hosted several Group Study Exchange members from Sweden, Italy and India and have hosted a Golfing Fellowship Youth Exchange student from Scotland.  They have attended 4 International Conventions, the International Institute and Zone 23/24 Institute.

Bruce and Helaine, both multiple Paul Harris Fellows and Foundation Benefactors, have three children and six grandchildren.  When not involved in Rotary, Bruce and Helaine have run a small retail herb nursery on their apple ranch and vineyard in Sebastopol where they both enjoy the propagation of plants.  Bruce continues to teach computer application software and consult part time.

Bruce retired after 30 years with IBM in 1992.  During his career, he received numerous awards including being named Divisional Systems Engineer of the Year.  He was invited to attend several Systems Engineering Symposiums and the 100% Club

Following his year as when President, Bruce began serving Rotary at the District level.  He served DG Lou Delsol as Governor’s Area Representative, and Governors Mike Merrill and Harry Johnson as Zone Aide, now called Assistant Governor.  He has served as District Directory Chair for Governors Franz Wartenweiler and Terri Clark, serving DG Franz as District Secretary and DG Terri as Assistant Governor.  He is currently the Chair of the District Peace Scholar Committee and a host councilor for one of the 70 Rotary Peace Scholars for 2002-2004.  He has served several years on the District Expansion Committee, assisting in the formation of two new Rotary Clubs in the District in the past 3 years.  In 2001 District 5130 named him Rotarian of the Year. 

Bruce and Helaine, a fellow Rotarian, have visited Mexico numerous times to visit Sebastopol’s Brother Club in Puerto Vallarta and as part of The Festival of Brotherhood a project fair in District 4150.
