NYC – Grand Central Terminal: Celluloid Skyline: New York and the Movies – Taxi Driver
Taxi Driver was a 1976 American drama directed by Martin Scorsese and written by Paul Schrader. The film starred Robert De Niro as Travis Bickle, a lonely, isolated, and psychotic taxi driver and Jodie Foster as the teenage prostitute he attempts to save.
Taxi Driver was a financial success and was nominated for several Academy Awards and received the Palme d’Or at the Cannes Film Festival. In later years, the film was ranked #47 on the American Film Institute’s list of "100 Years, 100 Movies", and #22 on its "100 Years, 100 Thrills". Bickle was also named as #30 on their villains list
Based on the award-winning book Celluloid Skyline, the Celluloid Sklyine exhibit in Grand Central Terminal featured many of the original long lost but now found and restored original backdrops from movies filmed in New York City over the past seven decades. The exhibit celebrated some of the greatest New York films ever made – from 42nd Street, Rear Window and King Kong to Ghostbusters, Annie Hall, Taxi Driver and Do the Right Thing – and highlighted the work of generations of movie New Yorkers on both sides of the camera: Fred Astaire, Ginger Rogers, Marlon Brando, Audrey Hepburn, Woody Allen, Jimmy Cagney, Martin Scorsese, Spike Lee, Robert De Niro.
